Bichon Frise Grooming

A well-groomed Bichon Frise looks like a little cloud — and that finish only happens with a proper fluff-dry on a stand dryer and a careful round-scissor finish on the head. At Kay's Groom Room a Bichon groom runs 90–150 minutes and prices from $70 to $95 depending on coat condition. The dense undercoat and curly outer coat hide mats and skin issues, so I line-brush thoroughly before the bath and whitening shampoo to bring back the signature bright coat. Every appointment is one-on-one in my in-home studio in Seagoville, TX — no barking, no waiting, no rushed finishing. Bichon owners come to us from Seagoville, Mesquite, Balch Springs, Kaufman, Forney, and across the southeast Dallas metro.

  1. 1Calm arrival and settle on the table

  3. 3Whitening bath to brighten the coat, double rinse, conditioning
  4. 4Stand-dryer fluff-dry to lift the coat into its signature volume

  6. 6Nail trim, ear clean, sanitary, and a bandana or bow

At-home routine between grooms

  • Brush daily with a slicker, then comb through to the skin — the dense undercoat hides mats at the surface
  • Wipe under the eyes daily with a damp cloth to manage tear staining
  • Check armpits and behind the ears twice a week — those are the first places to mat
  • Book every 4–6 weeks to stay ahead of the curl tightening against itself

Bichons need a proper fluff dry with a stand dryer to get the full powder-puff finish. Rushed grooms flatten the coat.

Bichon Frise grooming — FAQs

Bichons need a stand-dryer fluff-dry to stand the coat up and round it into shape. A cage dryer or rushed low-velocity dry lays the coat flat, which is why the finish looks unlike the breed picture. I always fluff-dry Bichons by hand — it takes longer, but that's where the cloud comes from.
